Thailand is going green - Thailand to give away 1 million cannabis plants
Thailands government is set to give away 1 million free cannabis plants.
Yes, you heard that right.
This move is a part of Thailand’s drive to decriminalize cannabis and will commence when most of the legal restrictions are lifted in June.
There will be no cap on how many plants Thai citizens are allowed to grow in their home and home cultivarors will not need to get permission from the government to grow; however in the case of a commercial grow a permit must first be obtained from the government.
The intent of this move is to redefine cannabis as a household crop.
Thai officials are hoping to facilitate the growth of a strong legal cannabis sector, not only generating money directly through sales but also bolstering the tourism sector.
Two quotes that stood out by Anutin Charnvirakul, Thailands Health Minister:
"This will enable people and the government to generate more than 10 billion baht [per year] in revenue from marijuana and hemp"
"people can showcase their cannabis and hemp-related products and wisdom and sell their products nationwide."
Medical cannabis was legalized in 2018, resulting in more widespread acceptance and applications of cannabis. This move is surely going to do wonders for further normalizing cannabis use in Thailand and across the globe.
This move pushes us further towards acceptance of cannabis as an agricultural crop.
As Thailand is a tourist hotspot people from all over the world will now have the option to go to Thailand and try cannabis in a normalized, comfortable atmosphere which will do wonders towards pushing cannabis along on the global stage.
Hats off to Thailand for somehow figuring out how to drive legalization without having corporate interests contaminate this plant.
Respect the plant, and the people.
The ckoser we get to treating cannabis like a natural plant the better 🌱🙌
